What is Model United Nations (MUN)?

Model United Nations (MUN) is an educational simulation where students represent different countries and engage in debates, negotiations, and decision-making to solve global issues. Participants act as delegates of their assigned countries in various UN committees, following diplomatic rules and procedures to draft resolutions addressing specific topics.

Who can participate in MUN?

MUN is open to students of all ages, from middle school to university level. BILSEM-MUN welcomes both beginners and experienced delegates. We have committees designed for different experience levels — from beginner-friendly to advanced.

What skills will I develop in MUN?

MUN helps students develop essential skills including:

How does a typical MUN conference work?

A typical MUN conference involves several stages:

  1. Opening Ceremonies: Introduction to the conference with keynote speeches
  2. Opening Speeches: Delegates present their country’s position
  3. Debate: Delegates discuss, propose, and amend solutions
  4. Caucusing: Informal meetings for negotiations and drafting resolutions
  5. Resolution Voting: Delegates vote on proposed solutions
  6. Closing Ceremonies: Awards ceremony and conference conclusion
What are the Rules of Procedure?

Rules of Procedure outline how debate is conducted. They specify how delegates speak, introduce motions, ask questions, and vote on resolutions. Key elements include:

  • Points: Point of Information, Point of Order, Point of Personal Privilege
  • Motions: Motion to Open Debate, Motion for Moderated/Unmoderated Caucus
  • Voting Procedures: Simple majority, two-thirds majority, consensus

BILSEM-MUN will provide a detailed Rules of Procedure guide to all delegates before the conference.

What awards are given at MUN conferences?

BILSEM-MUN recognizes outstanding delegates with the following awards:

  • Best Delegate: The most outstanding delegate in a committee
  • Outstanding Delegate: Delegates who significantly contributed to debate
  • Honorable Mention: Delegates who performed exceptionally well

BILSEM-MUN 2026 features 9 committees across different difficulty levels:

  • Beginner: DISEC, LEGAL, UEFA
  • Intermediate: UEFA, H-IOC, H-NATO
  • Advanced: T-JCC, HCC, JCC, H-UNSC

What is the conference fee?

Is there a dress code?

Yes, BILSEM-MUN follows Western Business Attire (formal dress code):

  • Delegates: Suit or blazer with dress pants/skirt, dress shirt, tie (optional), formal shoes
  • Press Team: Smart casual with press badge
  • Administration: Suit or blazer with dress pants/skirt, dress shirt, tie (optional), formal shoes

The dress code helps create a professional atmosphere and prepares delegates for real diplomatic settings.

Application & Registration

How do I apply to BILSEM-MUN?

  2. Choose your role (Delegate, Delegation, Chairboard, Press, or Administrative Staff)
  3. Fill out the application form
  4. Wait for confirmation email
  5. Complete payment after acceptance

Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis, so apply early!

Can I apply as a group or school delegation?

Yes! Schools can register delegations. Benefits include:

What’s the difference between Delegate, Chair, Press, and Administration?
  • Delegate: Represents a country in committee debates and negotiations
  • Chair: Leads committee discussions, moderates debates, and guides delegates (requires MUN experience)
  • Press Team: Documents the conference through articles, photos, and social media
  • Administration: Supports conference operations and logistics
What is the application deadline?

BILSEM-MUN uses rolling admissions, meaning applications are reviewed as they are received.
